Our children deserve the best state of the art facilities with 21st century technology in every classroom. Our teachers need our community's support so they have the environment and resources to educate our children. It's time to construct, rebuild and renovate our schools to meet the demands of more students in our school system.
The future of our schools and community is at stake.
"I am very excited to unveil our five year capital plan that was passed by our board of education. This is a culmination of six months of work from our school system personnel, community input, and capital planning committee. These projects could sustain Athens City Schools for the next fifty years."
"A desirable city focuses on public safety, education, economic vitality and quality of life. Losing focus on one area causes a city to suffer in all of those areas. The Athens City School System offers a quality education. In order to remain competitive, our system not only has to offer a quality education but also excellent facilities in which to provide that education."
-Ronnie Marks, Mayor, Athens, AL
"As a native of Athens and the former CFO of Athens State University, I have seen our school system grow and surpass the norm. Athens City Schools has the best quality of education but it's time to make sure that our teachers have the best facilities and resources to teach our children."
-Ewell Smith, former CFO of Athens State University
"Perception is in fact reality, sadly to say. If we are to be first class and become the best school system not only in the state, but the nation; we have to leave the image that we are indeed placing education as one of our top priorities. Just look at Athens State University and the updates they’ve made in their facilities recently. Visitors that come through know they place a high value on education. Let’s invest in our future and make our school system facilities the very best."
-Wayne Kuykendall, local businessman, AXA Advisors
"I am a 2ND grade teacher at Brookhill Elementary and am proud to be a part of the Athens City School system. Academically, wonderful things are happening within our schools, but we need the resources to make sure our children can rise to the top. Every classroom should be equipped with technology that will help them be successful in the future. Our schools need an “extreme make-over“ from the inside out. Great things are happening on the inside and I believe that the outside should be representative of that greatness. Many times people judge a book by its cover. The cover of Athens City Schools should make new comers to our area want to take a deeper look. Once they look, I am certain they will be quite impressed with what they find! It’s time for Athens City Schools to move our students toward their future!"
-Toni Bailey, 2nd grade teacher at Brookhill Elementary
"As a parent to four children that will enroll in the Athens City School System, I support the Capital Campaign plan for improving our city school facilities. We are fortunate to have exceptional administrators and educators here in Athens, Alabama. However, our facilities need improvement. They are old and need updates in many areas. The Capital Campaign provides the funds necessary to implement innovative ways to make our buildings energy efficient, safe, more resourceful and accommodating to the growth of this community of learners. If our system implements the Capital Campaign, each student wins and our system would be more competitive with surrounding school systems. The Athens City Schools need substantial renovations and now is the time to move forward. Our community is progressive and we need to take action. It’s time to invest in the future of Athens."
